Swim, raft, and explore during 4 weeks of river exploration as you learn about rivers through the eyes of trout and salmon!

From 1:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Ages 9 – 12 only
July 12th – Deschutes River (Sandy Beach)
Introduction to the fish and wildlife of the Deschutes River. Learn about the effects human interference has on the habitats of fish and the water. Measure the water temperature and PH, test the speed of the water. Make a water scope. Swim and play on the beach.
July 19th Billy Chinook
Field Trip to Billy Chinook Lake where the Deschutes joins with the Snake and Crooked River.
Explore this water habitat and its challenges. Build your own dams, create erosion, test the water PH and temperature, and apply that data to understanding healthy fish habitats. (Swimming included.)
July 26th – Deschutes River State Recreation Area
Continue the adventure of the 252 mile Deschutes River where it ends and flows into the Columbia River. How has the river changed? How has climate changed effected the rivers? What types of creatures can you find with your water scopes? Search for vertebrates and invertebrate, test the water PH and temperature and speed, and apply that data to understanding healthy fish habitats.
August 2nd – Raft the Deschutes
Float down the world famous Deschutes River viewing the water through your new eyes as a Redside. Get to use a Go Pro to document life underwater. The river will never look the same to you again!
