Sherars Falls

Tyx’ Band and Sherars Falls as it was before Maupin.

This is a gifted day for you and all life: We are ONE, All Made by the SAME MAKER and Must Share All Of the MAKER’S CREATION EQUALY FOREVER!

This is the Tyx’ People’s unwritten law to live by forever….This is a main reason for this LAND we call the United States of America today.

The Tyx’ Leaders prophecy was told many years before the coming of the first aliens. All were told to prepare for the new visitors and have to care for them and welcome them always. If we do this, the CREATOR will guide, protect, provide and bless us forever. This is true, cause we still are here today and forever…. It didn’t matter how inhumane our people are treated.

So, when the first pioneers came through trying to find another way to the coast. The Tyx’ Band had to help them down the hill from what is called Grass Valley today through Buck Hollow. When the pioneers made it to what is known as Sherars Falls today, they were starving, hungry and very tired. The Tyx’ people fed them salmon, roots, berries, eels (lamprey) and deer meat. The pioneers thought that the Tyx’ people ate snakes. So, they were killing snakes and eating them. The Tyx’ people saw this, and told the pioneers that they weren’t eating snakes, but that it was eels from the river. The Tyx’ people showed the pioneers where to cross the River we now call the Deschutes. The pioneers stayed for awhile, got rested up and the Tyx’ showed them the route called the Barlow Trail today.

Tyx’ means this valley we call Tygh Valley today. Tyx’ Band of the Warm Springs Tribe is the name of the people that lived here before being removed to the Warm Springs Indian Reservation.

Sherars Falls is a haven for the Tyx’ Band for harvesting salmon and eels. Gifts from the CREATOR that requires annual prayer ceremonies for these precious gifts that give their life for our existence and all life. Salmon was the first to tell the CREATOR that he would give his body up for the people to eat so they won’t starve and pass on. In the Tyx’ people’s food order, salmon is first and each year the thanking the CREATOR for our Brother Salmon who feeds all life.

Maupin is a neighbor to the Tyx’ Band. Tyx’ people through the assimilation have always been ambassadors with the pioneers and today’s residents and Vice versa. The pioneers and the Tyx’ Band shared this land as the Treaty of 1855’s Tribal Reserved Rights to hunt, fish and gather edible roots and medicinal plants at usual and accustom places. That was honored and respected by the original pioneers. The Tyx’ people use to move about freely to the negotiation of the Treaty of 1855.

Not today, many pioneer land that was inherited by families of today have no trespassing signs on their land property boundaries. This must be changed back to honoring the Treaty of 1855.

I yearn for this Maupin’s 100 Year Centennial Celebration ignite the ambassadorship between our communities again….Love & Bless.
