Hunt Maupin

From Maupin, you can access over 1.65 million acres of Central Oregon’s vast public lands that include the Mt Hood National Forest, the Deschutes River and surrounding uplands that provide habitat for big game such as elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep as well as upland game birds and waterfowl.

If the hills are too steep, you are looking to entertain clients or you need a place to work your birddogs, try one of the areas 12 extended-season shooting preserves for chukar, quail, or pheasant. Wamic Recreation Company and Sage Canyon Outfitters offer packages ranging from single hunter guided and non-guided hunts to corporate groups within a 20 minute drive from Maupin.


The high-desert climate makes Maupin a perfect choice to base and hunt nearly year-round.

(BLM) Public Land

The Lower Deschutes River is surrounded by public land that host numerous wildlife species. Unless specifically noted, public lands managed by the BLM are open to the public for hunting. Check with the Prineville BLM office to inquire about closures, restrictions and safety tips when planning your trip.


Only hunt on lands where it is legally allowed. Private land is open to hunting only if you have the permission of the landowner. If you do not have permission to hunt, you are trespassing and can be prosecuted. Crossing private lands to access public lands is not permitted, unless you first obtain permission from the private landowner.


White River Wildlife Area

Established in 1953 and located along the east slope of the Cascade Mountains in the north central part of Oregon, the wildlife area encompasses 29,480 acres. Find out more information and view maps at White River Wildlife Area.


Extended-Season Preserves

For a less-strenuous hunting adventure, try one of the area’s 12 extended-season shooting preserves for chukar, quail, or pheasant. Wamic Recreation Company and Sage Canyon Outfitters both offer packages ranging from single-hunter guided and non-guided hunts to corporate group excursions, all within a 20-minute drive of Maupin.
