In 2024, The Maupin City Council voted to adopt a Dark Sky proclamation. For those unfamiliar with the Dark Sky project, please visit www.darksky.org. Though Maupin itself currently has a Bortle score of 4, a five-minute drive in any direction will bring you up to the "flats" surrounding Maupin, Tygh Valley, Wamic, and Antelope. Here, you can enjoy dark skies with little-to-no light pollution. These dark skies make South Wasco County a desirable place to witness astronomical events, hold star parties, or just enjoy being surrounded by big, clear, open skies.

Amenities include: pro-shop, snack bar, rental clubs and carts, driving range, putting green, and chipping area. The Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort and RV Park is also near by.
