Summer Fun in Maupin

If you’re looking for a great spot for recreation this summer, Maupin is the place to be. It may be a small town, but it’s brimming with activities that outdoor enthusiasts love. If you’ll be traveling to Central Oregon, consider stopping over in Maupin for fishing, rafting, hiking, and exciting events.

FISHING IN MAUPIN

Although technically Maupin is situated in a high desert area, there’s no shortage of water with the Deschutes River flowing right through the town. The lower Deschutes river has become famous for fishing. Anglers from around the Northwest flock to Maupin to fish for Redside Trout and Steelhead.

RAFTING THE DESCHUTES

The lower Deschutes River is also home to some of the best whitewater rafting in the Northwest. Beginners and experienced paddlers alike come to Maupin to brave the rapids. Most hire an experienced guide to take them through the whitewater, but there are plenty of shuttle services in the area if you want to raft or kayak the river on your own.

HIKING THE HIGH DESERT

Because Maupin boasts both high desert vistas and a raging river, there is plenty to see on a hike. There are great trails and camping areas along the river. Depending on the season, you might see upland game birds, antelope, coyotes, or even elk on your hike. There are also miles of paved roads that are perfect for biking if you’d rather not walk.

MAUPIN DAYS RIVER FESTIVAL

Every year in May the town of Maupin celebrates with a River Festival called Maupin Days. The entire community bands together to kick off the summer with races, live music, discounted rafting, kids activities, and a free raffle. Families are encouraged to join in the festivities for the weekend at the Oasis Riverview Campground. Admission is free.

Maupin is also home to some great hunting, bird watching, and geocaching. There are fun events throughout the year, but the town is especially full of activity during the summer months. Come out to Maupin and experience our high desert playground for yourself!
